Ilminster Deanery Synod
Synod meetings are held three times a year and anyone is invited to join in, whether Deanery Synod Representatives from the parishes, or not.
At each meeting we have a certain amount of business, and the main item is a talk by a visiting speaker. In 2019 we appreciated talks by Natalie Wainwright on Reimagining Church Buildings, Tina Hodgett on Pioneering Ministry, and James Fox-Robinson on Prayer; then in February 2020 Andy Gray encouraged us to Share our Faith.
The other part I value enormously is the open mic, where people from around the Deanery talk just briefly about encouragements or challenges in their own parishes. We are a community, with much to share.
The next Synod meeting is due to be in June, so we wait to know whether it will be possible to gather. Whenever the meeting will be, I would like to give plenty of time to sharing what the months of isolation and social distancing have meant, and I hope, the unexpected blessings of this time.
Synod is an opportunity for valuable sharing of ideas and sometimes frustrations. I thank all the Parish Reps for their participation and hope they will bring others along with them to the meetings. We need each other, to be the Body of Christ.
